home videos disappear from playlist in iTunes

After I convert my video to MP4 I import file to Home Videos in iTunes, seems okay. Next time I open iTunes the movie has gone from the playlist. It is in the iTunes media folder so why is it disappearing from iTunes itself. Using Win 7 64 bit. Also, I used to drag and drop, that is not longer an option. I won't upgrade to the latest update until this is fixed, I have enough trouble already!!
